Honestly, I had no great desire to leave the mountains and head back into desert terrain — the views had been too good. So I decided to stay another day. I hiked on some other trails away from the PCT, read for a while, walked a bit more. Mostly day hikers out here on the non-PCT routes.

In the afternoon the weather turned and I retreated to the tent to keep reading. At some point it started snowing.
By evening, I regretted not having moved on. The gas ran out in the middle of cooking dinner. I tried finishing it off with some scraps of paper — not a good idea. The ink and additives produced an enormous amount of smoke. I definitely should not have done that inside the tent. I put it out quickly and nothing was damaged, but the mashed potato never properly heated through. Lukewarm. Better than nothing.
